Since it functioned well for 5 months, I doubt the hardware is at fault. Was the system moved from one location to another prior to the connection issues? When you reinstalled the driver, did you first remove the wireless adapter from the device manager, restart the system and then load the driver?
I have just undergone a move, but the problem occurred roughly a month afterwards, so I did not consider that could be a cause of the issue. Also, when I installed the driver, I was never prompted with any instructions as to do any of that. I installed a driver update directly from Dells drivers lists, and have never been required to do that with any other pieces of hardware within the system when updating drivers.
Okay, so I have removed the driver, restarted the computer, and then proceeded to re-install the driver. I will give this a good 2-3 days of waiting and watching to see if the problem happens to re-occur
Okay, so, as an update, this did not 100% resolve my issue. I am still encountering the wireless issues. They are happening less frequently now, but it still renders many uses of my system almost unbearable.
Dell admits the old XIFI card is no good, new x51 models now use a different card .DW1506 Wireless-N WLAN Half Mini-Card is the new card the troubled one was the 1502. This came direct from a supervisor.
If you already tried updating the wireless drivers and the issue is still present, send us an e-mail to awsocialmedia@dell.com please include the service tag, phone number and brief description of the issue.

For troubleshooting reasons, go ahead and remove the driver, restart the computer, reinstall the driver.

But I had the system for over half a year before these issues began, and as Chris said above, it is highly unlikely it would actually be the card.
