Upgrading m15x gpu and ram

Alienware M15X  : Intel i7 Q720  -  4GB ram - Nvidia Geforce GT 240M - Windows 7 64bit

Bought this laptop from a friend.  I gave it a format and installed my games.   I'm the type of gamer that favors performance over quality of graphics.  I play most of my games on lower settings to keep a high framerate but the set up I have now just isnt good enough for the games today.   Sure WoW plays at about 100 fps but when I play Warframe or Planetside 2 (both on low settings),  I get around 30 fps that usually drops drastically during periods of many things happening on screen.

Overheating is NOT an issue!  I have my laptop hooked up to my flatscreen tv so I can just chill on the couch.   The laptop is propped up on a makeshift fan cooler that a friend helped me build.  It's glorious.  With this rig,  I know my games are not lagging because of a hot laptop.

I'm a gamer not a computer tech-y.  So I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade the graphics card and ram?  What's a good upgrade for a decent price?  Can I buy these parts right from dell?  Should I stick with the graphics card I have now and just buy more ram?

Any info to help me upgrade my M15X would be great.

The amount of RAM the Alienware 15x is ready and tested to work with goes from 2 GB to 8 GB with memory speeds of 1066 MHz and 1333 MHz.

But as far as upgrading the video card, the system has it embedded into the Motherboard, you would have to replace the entire motherboard in order to be able to upgrade it.
The two models that were released for the m15x are:
Nvidia® GeForce® GTX 260M
Nvidia® GeForce® GT 240M

Dell doesn't sell those anymore, my best recommendation would be to talk either with: parts-people.com or ztronics.com

I hope you find this information useful.

Hi there . this is an old post but i figured id reply anyway. M15 x can take a better processor  I7920xm is the best however it will take a 940xm but it runs somewhat warm. Ram wise officially supported is 8gb but it will take 16 gb of ram, i have that amount in mine.  Gpu wise there is a lot of cards that will fit most gtx range cards 680m, 685m. 760m 770m. Amd 7970m, There is talk in forums of the gtx 970m going in there but i have not looked on this yet.  (google is your friend)  so there we have it good luck. !
