Windows 10 Black Screen

I Forum, I have an Alienware 15 R3 with a separate screen plugged in via the mini display port. The display is a 34" curved monitor. I have it running through the NVidia GPU.

When I switch the machine on, it comes up with the log in screen. Login fine but then the screen goes black and the cursor shows but that is it until about roughly 3 minutes later explorer starts.

I have tried numerous "solutions" to no avail. I've even updated the drivers to the latest version but the problem persists.

A pause like that during main-boot (after BIOS post but before Login screen) sometimes means Windows is having a hard time determining which video card to use. Solution here is usually to disable one.

A pause like that after the login screen is sometimes Windows trying to determine Primary Monitor or Port. Try setting one that is always connected (that might have to be laptop's LCD screen).

If laptop had a proper Docking Station, it would likely work better.

I have tried even disconnecting the external screen, rebooting with just the laptop screen but the problem still exists. AFTER I log in I get the infamous black screen for exactly 4minute 15 second and then explorer starts.

I've come across this issue—although for me it would load the Alienware logo screen then go black without the windows login screen. This would happen randomly but started to occur more frequently.

After researching, my solution was to turn off the Windows 10 fast boot option. This resolved the issue. Boot-up times may appear slightly longer but not noticeable.
