When that drive was installed it must have been recognized by my computer and placed in some data base that I can access. There is nothing, of course, on the exterior of this drive that tells me what it is, who made it, what model. I don't think my opening the case and inspecting the drive will give me the info. I need. There must be a simple way of determining exactly what was installed. Do I need to call someone to determine that? When I asked the tech who installed the drive what it was, he couldn't tell me. I was amazed.
Your specific equipment listing will not reflect the replacement part. Unless there is a firmware update for the drive there are no other downloads needed, since the drivers for CD/DVD drives are just the default built in Microsoft drivers. Media players are not drive dependent so no additonal software is needed for the new drive.
You can go to the Device Manager and it will list what model the new drive is, or use the Belarc Advisor, www.belarc.com and it will profile all of your hardware and software (q good idea it to run the Belarc Advisor and then print it out and save it, as it lists the Product Key for a lot of the software).
Merthy thakes, still a novice after seven years. I know, this is basic stuff.
Sigh. The Device Mngr., of course. Thilly me. Now I have the drive i.d.'d. Thanks for your kind indulgence, all.
That is a bit surprising that there is no info on the drive somewhere. But I completely forgot about Device manager. Sometimes we overlook the simplest of things.
