Adding a second parallel port

My Dell Dimension XPS T500 came with an HP DeskJet 610CL printer I wan 't to continue to use when color is important. However, my old HP LaserJet Series II is much faster and offers better black and white quality. I want to be able to switch from one to the other without having to unplug and plug things and changing settings. I have been advised against trying to use a switcher and to self-install one of several kits available to add a second parallel port. Who has done this? How did it work out? Any recommendations as to what kit I should buy? Any speficially recommended by or for Dell? Cautions?

I have done it both ways with limited success.

A/B switch must be of good quality, able to handle bi-directional signals. Radio Shack should solve that.

Parallel port card. The cheap ones are limited by jumper to their IRQ options. In my case, it would declare a conflict but worked OK.

I would start with an A/B switch then go for a parallel card if that doesn't work.
