AGP texture acceleration Dimension E520

DirectX 9.0
Dell Dimension E520
Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator

My AGP texture acceleration is not available, so im not able to play games and watch video.
I ran dxdiag and only two out of three DirectX-functions are available in de display tab.
Is my video card AGP texture acceleration prepared (how to say?) and if so, what drivers do i need to install in order to enable AGP.

YES: The first right answer that helps me out is rewarded via paypal (please no haggle).

Hello,

I just read your response.
I seem to have a similar problem with my pc:

Dimension 5000,
Intel Pentium 4 (640), 3.2 GHz
1 GB RAM
Geforce 6800 (256 MB)
Win XP incl. SP 2
DirectX 9.0c

I tried to install the Microsoft game "Rise of Legends".
Since then I am aware that AGP acceleration is deactivated (I ran DxDiag).

I had a look into the Bios, but there is no option for activating AGP.

Does the exe-file on the intel site activate the AGP mode?
I wouldn't like to run an exe file without knowing what it does on my pc.

Thank you in advance for your answer!

Greetings,
Günther

Gunther,

Indeed, for me there is no option to set AGP in BIOS too.
I think Dell/Intel is the one to help us out. Did not get any respons so far.

Lets agree we inform eachother on this matter.

Agreed!

But first lets see Hydralisk's response.
Unfortunately I couldn't find any other mentioning of his about this intel-file.

Who knows what it is supposed to do and if it works for us?

Günther

I installed it, but did not work out.

  • Dell servicedesk responded by telling me dat AGP is old fashioned and is not supported with our new PCI Express systems.
  • COD2 Servicedesk suggested to buy another compatible videocard.
  • Somebody in a forum suggested to installe DirectX7. This is what i need to check out yet.

Hello Marius,

thanks for your feedback.

Running your PCIexpress card in AGP mode doesn't mean that you want to build an AGP bus card into your pc. Maybe the DELL support mistook one for the other?

First some counter arguments for the DELL support desk:
If AGP mode was really old fashioned:
How does it come that it is a new game that is causing all these problems on my computer? (Rise of Legends)
How does it come that a new game is requiring support of an old fashioned technique? (btw. it requires DirectX 9.0c and the hardware requirements aren't exactly modest, either)
How does it come that it is a game made by the same company that produces the operating system of your pc? (in other words: Wouldn't MS know which requirements their software makes?)
And how does it come that only this very game complains that you don't have the required minimum amount of 64 MB video RAM (my video card is not defunct and has 256 MB Video RAM) and that your card doesn't support AGP mode.
Btw. I installed the newest video card drivers, my os is up to date, and I updated the game and even the BIOS. The problem stays the same.

I wasn't successful so far in reaching the DELL support mainly because my working times prevent me from calling them in time. :( But maybe you talk to them again...

To your other answers:
I ran "dxdiag" (without quotation marks) in "Start" -> "Execute". Try it out!
It provides some graphics tests and analyses if your video hardware works properly.
Maybe interesting for you: My AGP test was successful, nevertheless I can't activate it in dxdiag.
I also tried another function and interestingly the DirectX8 and DirectX9 tests were successful while the DirectX7 test of the very same function didn't work. So DirectX7 wouldn't exactly help, would it? And would it help you if the game in question demands DirectX 9.0c? (being the case with Rise of Legends)

I am sorry that I cannot really help and just add unsatisfying comments, but I cannot really believe that only the two of us are meeting these problems! Keep on watching, I will keep you informed, too, as soon as I find out something new.

Greetings from Germany,
Günther

As an afterthought:
  • Which programme is causing this trouble on your pc? (me: "Rise of Legends")
  • Which video card do you use (me: Geforce 6800 with 256 MB Video RAM by DELL)

Maybe it is a hardware problem nonetheless?

Greetings,

Günther

My graphicscard (on board): Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator.
Game causing problems: Call of Duty 2.

A reader in a different message board recommended updating the mainboard chipset drivers.

I had a look at the drivers being offered by DELL.
The only chipsed driver update didnot work for me.
It seems to address different errors, the result for "Rise of Legends" on my PC stayed the same. :(

Any other tips?
Or any known different chipset drivers that enable activation of APG mode? (if the problem is the chipset driver...)

Thanks in advance!
Günther
