ATI GRAPHICS DRIVER

While playing a game in Yahoo, my computer screen went haywire and shut down.  Three or four vertical bars went acrossed the screen filled with pink and black plaid.  The background was black and yellow plaid.  The computer shutdown and when I finally got it up and had windows do a check, it said "ATI Graphics Driver" had errors.  What do I need to do?  I went to Dell and searched but could not find any ATI Graphics Drivers to download.  I would appreciate any help please.

You can download the latest drivers straight from AMD's site.

You might be able to uninstall the driver from Safe Mode. Also, you may want to run sfc /scannow to check for and correct any corruption in your system files.

If you have onboard video, you can try removing the graphics card, booting up normally, and uninstalling the ATI drivers.

Well...I can't bring the computer up now.  It goes directly to a solid bold plaid backdrop with three bold vertical plaid stripes ...which makes it impossible for me to go anywhere to download anything.  Can this be done by getting into Safe Mode when I bring up the computer by pressing F8 repeatedly when it is booting up?

Power off the tower.

remove all cables/cords/devices connected to the tower

keep the power button pressed for 40 seconds.

Reconnect power cord, monitor, keyboard and mouse

Power it on, it should work.

Else: Open system tower cover, reseat (take out-put back in) the video card

This should fix the issue, if not, the video card would need to be replaced.

goodluck!

My computer cannot come up now.  It only brings up a bold plaid screen with bold plaid bars running acrossed it.  How can I download these ATI Graphics Drivers?  Can it be done through Safe Mode?  Do I get there by pressing F8 repeatedly?

If you don't get a BIOS screen at bootup, you may have a hardware problem.

If your computer has a discrete graphics card as well as integrated graphics, I suggest removing the discrete graphics card and connecting your monitor to the onboard graphics.

Can I do this through Safe Mode?  My computer will not come up to the point that I can get to this site.  It brings up a bold plaid screen with bold plaid vertical bars.

How will I recognize the video card?  Does it look different, or is it in a different location in the back?

It sounds like your video overheated and is permanently damaged.

Well...how do I replace the video?  Where is it located in the back?
