Auto Insert does not work

Everytime I put a disc into my CD ROM drive, the auto insert does not come up anymore. I already checked in device manager and auto insert notification is checked. is there anything else that i can do?

Hi,

If you're running Windows 98 First Edition, install the Tweak UI utility from there. I believe it's in the Tools\Reskit folder, and the thing you want is called Powertoy. Once installed, go to My Computer | Control Panel | Tweak UI. Move to the very last tab: Paranoia. On this screen, check the CD boxes as you like, under Things That Happen Behind Your Back. Click Apply, then OK. This is sometimes enough to bring the feature back for you. Be sure the auto-insert notification is still checked in Device Manager. Restart your system to be sure the changes have loaded, then try it.

If you're running Windows 98 SE, Tweak UI is not on this CD, due to a decision on Microsoft's part not to include it. This link from Dan B will take you to a site from which you can download Tweak UI.

Good luck,
Kay

Hi,

If you're using the Win98 CD, in Windows Explorer, browse to the Tools\Reskit\Powertoy folder. Next, right-click the tweakui.inf file, and choose Install from the context menu which appears. From that point, it will install for you.

From a downloaded copy, browse to the file on your hard drive, double-click it and it will install for you.

Hope this will help,
Kay

It didn't work. I installed the TweakUI and the auto insert still doesn't come up. Could having a CD-RW be causing these problems. I remember after installing my CD-RW, the auto insert still worked on both drives. IT was after I uninstalled a game and deleted the remainding folder, it said this change can impact one or more registered programs, but I deleted it anyway. Since then the auto insert on both my DVD Drive and CD-RW have not worked.

Hi,

I'm not Pam, but try this article from the Microsoft Knowledge Base. I believe your registry may have been damaged when you uninstalled the program in question.

Good luck,
Kay
