awards????

how in God's name did Dell win any awards in customer service???? I've been on the phone with them 7 times and they don't know squat about what they sold me. 3 times I was talking to someone in Ihndia and the other times they had me identify all of my info then listened to my prob then put me on hold and the next person did the same thing again meanwhile I've got a system that is useless for what I bought it for! in my opinion Dell stinks. They undercut every one else's prices by hiring idiots for support!

Instead of bitc*ing about the cra**y tech support, why don't you try posting your problems here & let some of the knowledgable users of this forum try to get your issues solved.

I've used the people here alot & if you can give them enough info about your problem, I'm sure they will help.

By the way it is spelled India. (sorry I couldn't resist)

Hi there

DellTalk Forums are the best to learn and troubleshoot your system, unless you have lots and lots of spare time to spend on the phone with Techies and just wait untill you try the Indian branch of Dell support. Been there, did it, did not like it !!!!!!!

because I didn't pay for a warranty to post stuff ( c r a p) on a forum I want some one on the phone 24 hrs like
I was promised. I think that's reasonable, don't you?

No. I've been around computers long enough to know not to dream about tech support. Your warranty will cover your stuff that breaks in the coverage period, not the knowledge to troubleshoot it.

After a couple encounters with Indian tech support, I'd advise Dell to can it. It can't be doing the company any good. Might as well route the calls to a mental institution or nursery school.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree on this point, 4 or 5 times I've called, these last two weeks, and was put thru to India, I was fortunate to get one great & knowledgable & helpful guy twice in a row, I got a delightful & helpful & KNOWLEDGABLE girl, named "Sherry", and then another guy named "Jim", ALL of the people I've had service with from India, so far, have been equal or BETTER then their USA Dell counterparts. Sometimes, it's like Russian roulette, though, with tech phone support, you either get a dedicated knowledgable tech rep, or you get no satisfaction, years ago when I purchased my first Dell, there were some real Bozos working tech during the afternoon hours, I remember once, a tech had me reinstall Win95 OVER Win95, oh man, headache city, but, all in all, I would say that 8.5 times out of ten, I got quality tech support, 6 years later, I think it is a safe bet, that 8 out of 10, is a fair rating, which isn't 100%, but is still pretty dam good! No matter, Dell + Intel can't be beat, stability and reliability, if you get a new box, put it thru your own "burn-in", if you're not satisfied, send it back, start over! The tech guys and gals on these boards are THE GREATEST, what other PC Company give's you this kind of support, hell, you can get price protection rebates, status of rebates, orders, etc, set up returns, etc, etc, etc!! May the GeFource be with you, later, Rob1910

i was very surprized when i called dell last month. expecting to be on the phone a long time & thinking it's going to be a horrible experience i put it off for days.
so the big day comes. i call... with in "2"mins. someone got on the phone (2mins WOW). the call lasted only 5mins.

although the tech did sounded like i woke him up in the middle of the night at home (didn't want to give info., i had to drag it out)

at packard bell years ago, many times on the phone for hours.

i think dell would eliminate a lot of phone calls if they pull a couple of rep's from the phones and put them here at the forum to answer questions. i bet "90%" of their calls would be simply answered here. saving the phone lines for the difficult ones.

rob 1910,
I have never gotten India, but I like you standing up for Dell and the Tech, support people. Try Compaq if you think Dell is bad. Try Micron, second to Dell in service. Charged me $3.26 minute to reinstall my OS.$96. to reinstall OS on a 3 month old computer., and it didn't solve anything!! It is not Tech. supports fault, it is the computer industry as whole, they have got to grow up. Like the auto industry, it would not have made it with out used car lots and service centers. Try fixing a flat head Ford over the Telephone or how about a Turbo Charger!!! Try getting directions for treading a needle over the phone, or giving them!!
Thanks,
Marvin P

I think Dell should have walk in *service centers* like Gateway does......or other stores for that matter. Might be more cost efficient in the long run then trying to figure things out over the phone, sending out parts which might not be the problem, only to have to do it again and maybe again........ Stores can diganose right? Isn't there equipment that can see if components go bad on things........ anyway, I think it would be easier and easier on people then us trying to get into our computers and taking things apart for them while we are on the phone. Although I had to do this and was not all that thrilled, I survived, but can you imagine some 70 year old lady trying to open that thing and pulling the heat sink off or something......... I can't........................ plus I can see other damage being done accidently in the attempt to remove things.......... IMO.

Dell replace my power supply a little over a week ago, I was having shut off problems......... so far so good... hope it remains this way

Because the cost of the computer and peripherals will go up in terms of the tax you will pay on everything from A:\ drives to Zip drives.

Hi There kmosco

Hello, Karen, what's with the "some 70 year old lady" here's one 68+ old lady that not only repairs her own computers, but also builds them. Please do not think that "little old ladies" are incapable, do I read a small touch of age bias here?

Have a good day and all that good stuff

Bev

Just because you can build your own does not mean that other older women can...... many have arthritis etc. and it was used for an example. I know many women that would not want to get inside their computers...........

Have a good day
