Backup drive does not open

I have just purchased and set up my new Inspiron with Windows 8.1.  As suggested, I backed up my system onto a 16GB flash drive. But I am unable to view what  is on that flash drive. I have no trouble opening and viewing other flash drives that I have. So why can I not open the backup flash drive?

In Disk Management, does your flash drive appear full or empty?

In Disk Management, my flash drive is marked: SYSRECOVERY 14.91GB FAT 32, Healthy

But if I need it some day how do I open it or run it ?

I believe the recovery media is bootable, and when you boot will launch the DBAR recovery utility. You should see the image you created on the flash drive as an available recovery image after booting to this drive.
