Bad Video

I have a 3100 running Dell factory configuration. It intermittently looses the Intel video driver and pops up a message saying to reboot. Rebooting does, usually, restore the video driver, but there has to be a better way other than rebooting to fix this issue. I have tried downloading all the MS updates and driver files, and have even done a complete wipe and install. The problem is still here, and is the same as before the wipe. Any one know of the cause or fix?

What exactly does the message say?

Title of dialog box is 'Windows - Display Driver Stopped Responding'

The message body is 'The ialmrnt5 display driver has stopped working normally. Save your work and reboot the system to restore full display functionality. The next time you reboot the machine a dialog will be displayed giving you a chance to upload data about this failure to Microsoft'

There is an 'OK' button to push to close the message, and when you reboot the display is back to normal.

Here's one hit from these forums. Try updating to the latest Inter video driver. I would go to the Intel site first and not try whatever version Dell has on their site.

I tried that already. Intel says no driver available for a Dell branded MB. Only drivers available are from Dell site or through MS updates. Tried both, and the result is the same. Tried a wipe and install, same result. Tried the driver off of the utilities CD, same result. Tried with and without SP2, same result. I'm trying to get Dell to replace the MB under warranty, but so far they want to blame drivers, not hardware. Will keep trying.
