Sounds like the problem maybe with the operating system itself.  Does the system successfully boot to a bootable CD or bootable floppy disk?  If you haven't tried then do so.  You may have to change the boot order on the system so that either the floppy or CD drive is before the hard drive. This will at least give you an indication whether the problem is with the system or the operating system.  If the problem is with the operating system then consider posting in the Software - Windows XP forum.  That forum is very popular and someone should be able to assist you in repairing Windows.

I am at my witts end. :smileysad: I have tried to reboot with a floopy and a
disc. It says the Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:  System32\DRIVERS\pci.sys    You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM Select 'r'  at the first screen to start repair.                                             The only CD-ROM I have is the Windows XP Home edition . It still sounds as if it wants to start but will not.

First..... if you are receiving that error message then you never changed the boot order for the system so that the floppy drive boots before the hard drive.  You can also use the Windows XP CD just to check to see that the system is booting Ok, but again you must change the boot order.   Click here for your model's on-line User Guide and the section pertaining to changing the boot order.

Secondly, the problem is more than likely a Windows XP problem.   Have you tried the suggestion offered in the Software - Windows XP forum in response to your posting there?

Thirdly, are you having problems accessing the system using the keyboard?  I get the impression from reading the other posting that the keyboard isn't working.
