Either the Core 2 Duo E8400, or the Core 2 Duo E8500 should work in the Inspiron 530.
The 0RY007 motherboard supports Core 2 Duo processors and does not support Core 2 Quad processors.

Follow up
Would i see any difference in performance between the E6550 and the E8500.

Yes, you would see some improvement in performance, but whether it's worth the expense of the upgrade, I doubt it.

You're right about the expense. Close to 2 bills give or take.

Personally, I would put the money towards buying a new PC with an i7/i9 processor,
That's what I did, I have a 530mt with a e6320 Core 2 Duo, instead of upgrading, put the money I saved towards an AMD Phenom ll x4 965 Quad core system.
