Ah forgot, I am using a Dell Dimension 3000 upgraded with a 4600 motherboard.  I upgraded the board about 6 months ago, so I am almost sure it isn't that.  I downloaded any needed drivers from the 4600 drivers page, and installed the rest from their CDs.

Dimension 4600

1.5gb RAM

40gb HD

160gb HD

P4 3.0ghz w/ HT

XP home

ATI Radeon X700pro AGP

Heres the deal,

Reciently I reinstalled windows XP, along with all my software (including mcafee).  When I started using it a few hours after I reinstalled the XP and software, and had already restarted it, it started to act weird and lockup internet explorer.  I restarted it, and after I got the Dell logo, I got a black screen.  All the lights were green.  I hit the power and shut it off, tried it again.  Black screen.  After six attempts it started windows xp, but when I got to the desktop, while it was loading I got on and off lockups.  Could this be signs of a possible HD failure in the future?  After the dell splash screen it was like the hard drive wasn't loading anything.

Thanks

After reinstalling XP, did you update the drivers and software from both the Dell and Microsoft websites? Also, what computer model are you using?

Did you load the chipset drivers first from the Dell website?

After a reinstall of Windows, the first drivers you need to install are the chipset drivers for the motherboard. These allow all subsequent drivers to be installed properly...This may be where your problem is?

Thanks for the help. Actully I think that chipset update was the issue. Plain forgot to do it this time before I updated the rest of the drivers. I just did it, and seems like it worked to solve the problem. :) Didn't mean to sound like a noob, but after a clean install, and the computer still has problems, that just scared me lol.
