Most BIOS versions today will detect and configure the drive automatically, and you'll see the new drive listed in the startup text on the monitor. However, if you need to configure the CMOS Setup yourself, follow these steps:
1. Turn on your computer. As your computer starts up, watch for a message that describes how to run the CMOS Setup (such as "Press F2 or Press Delete for Setup"). Press the appropriate key to start the CMOS Setup program.
2. Select the basic configuration menu with hard drive settings. To set the drive parameters, choose the primary master or primary slave (or secondary master/slave depending on how you've physically installed the drive).
3. Select Automatic Drive Detection (Auto) if available - this option automatically configures the computer for your new drive. If your BIOS does not provide automatic drive detection, select User-Defined drive settings and enter the appropriate geometry values from the drive documentation. As a rule, Write Precomp and Landing Zone parameters are set to zero.
4. Verify that the LBA Mode is enabled for your drive. Most BIOS will automatically set this mode during the autodetection process.
5. Enable the Ultra-DMA mode if it is available (and both the drive and controller support it).
6. Save the settings and exit the CMOS Setup program. Your computer will automatically reboot.
The drives will now need to be partitioned and formatted.

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Do you have the channels set to AUTO DETECT in the BIOS? This should be set.
