First, read the FAQ at the top of this forum to decide whether or not you need to upgrade the BIOS, realizing that if something goes wrong during the BIOS upgrade you would have to replace your motherboard.  If you decide that upgrading is necessary, you would first check to see if a newer version of the BIOS is available for your system model by going to the Downloads page and selecting "Flash BIOS Upgrades" as the download category.  You would then download the upgrade file, run it on your computer to create a bootable floppy drive, boot to the floppy and flash the BIOS.  I can't be more specific without knowing which model computer you have.

There is no BIOS upgrade that will allow the XPS B series to recognize a drive larger than 137 Gb.  Your only option is to install a PCI ATA/100 or ATA/133 Controller Card and attach the new drive to the controller card.  Note also that you will need to be running Windows XP with at least SP1 or Windows 2000 with SP4.

P.S.  Note that you have replied to a post that is over 2 years old.  In the future, post a new message to start a new thread rather than posting a reply to an ancient thread.
