Boot disk not recognized......Why Not?

I have an XPSD233...Service Tag...CVPCX
Now, I made a startup disk from the add/remove window. All instructions say to test your disk and make sure it works before you start reformating. When I insert the disk and start my computer, it doesn't check my "A" drive to see if anything is there and then take me into "dos". Naturally I have no way of knowing if my boot disk will work. How do I get my computer to check my "A" drive on startup.

Thanks again,
Twilight

How do I enter the BIOS, CMOS, Setup, or System Setup on my Dell™ computer?

when your PC starts up press F2 to go into the CMOS setup screen, look through it for a boot order/sequence option and set it to Boot to A Drive, then C Drive.

If it takes you to DOS it would appear it is working. That is what it is supposed to do…

You should be a prompt that looks like this: A:\>

If that is the case try DIR

Then DIR C:\

Then DIR E:\ This is with a CD in you CD-ROM.

9Volt,

When I went into my setup and went to the boot order, this is what I found...

1st boot device (ATAPI CD-ROM Drive)
2nd boot device (Hard Drive)
3rd boot device (Removable Devices)
4thboot device (Network Device)

Does this mean that I don't need a floppy and I can go right to my CD-ROM to install my OS? I need some good info.

Thank You,
Twilight

Attempt to change the order of the boot sequence, move the "removable devices" up to the top, and hard drive directly below that, that should make it so the a drive boots before the C drive (if a diskette is in the A drive) Try that and see!
