Boot Error message "Checkpoint D0"
When I start up my xps 435mt right after the Dell Splash Screen I get the following message:
"Alert previous attempts boot this sytem have failed at checkpoint D0"
Working with Dell we have replaced the motherboard and hard drive and updated the BIOS.
Two days latter i Received the message again. I now have the Tech coming back with the following items: Motherboard, Memory Chips and new Video Card.
Has anyone have this problem?
Can someone tell me what Checkpoint D0 is looking at on the system to create the error.
Don
**UPDATE AND EDIT FROM DELL**
Please update to BIOS revision 1.1.4, which was web posted today to address this issue.

RSalameh,
I'm using the ATA setting. I leave the drive powered on all the time or remember to turn it on before booting. My external drive is an Iomega Professional 1TB eSATA/USB drive.
Many different things can interfere with sleep mode, often USB printers or other devices connected to the network or the router itself. I've noticed that my XPS (running WIndows 7) won't go to sleep if my old Dimension 4600 is on. They are both connected through my Netgear WNDR3700 router. It might be that the Dimension (running Windows XP) opens some connection to the external drive or to the shared folder or the Canon printer on the XPS that prevents the XPS from enterning sleep mode. My recommendation would be to try disconnecting one device at a time until you can get it to work.

kgross99, thanks I finally installed it and the error still comes up. I am running Windows 7 with an Intel i7 chip.
Does anyone know if Dell is still working on this problem, or are they assuming that they fixed it with this update ?
Dell, can you please post a message with some type of status on where you are with this problem and when a final solution will be available.

Why is there another BIOS update 1.1.4 dated 12/27/09 ?? What is the difference with the one I updated with earlier ? Should I try to replace mine with this one ?

You can update to 1.1.4 if you wish but all it seems to do is delete the print portion of the error. My machine, like another poster mentioned previously, still hesitates where the message used to appear. The same problems still exist if I cycle in and out of sleep mode a few times.
Is this a Dell problem or a Windows 7, 64 bit problem ?

Ron, this problem existed when I was running Vista. There is definetely a Dell problem with these machines.

Here's someone else having similar problems on another forum.

Now that the boot error message is hidden on my machine via 1.1.4, the main issues that I am having are also all sleep related but not as bad as this poor fellow.:emotion-15:

It's not distressing to me that Dell is having a small problem with one of their lines... What I find truly distressing is that they're
OK with continuing to sell and ship product with known issues... I bought my Dell last April, and they appear to still be selling
machines with the checkpoint D0 anomaly.... No more DELL computers for me... Roll your own from now on...

Just able to read the error message today. The checkpoint D0 error. Since I am not a advanced computer type will I create more problems for myself if I change the BIOS? Error message seems to not effect anything on my i7 machine. Very fast.

what is really funny to me is they had me send my pc to them becoz they say that they cant make the pc's that they have come up with the boot error.
the first time i booted the "new" pc everything was all good i installed my printer to print the shipping label to mail them my "old pc" ,while the printer was installing i went outside to smoke when i came back in the pc was asleep i woke it back up to the reboot to finish installing message upon the restart poof there is the error "DO"
lol i had just took it out of the box 20 or 30 mins ago, funny dell!
now there "fix"is to remove the boot error message, nice "fix".we can see it hang where the boot error pops up it just dont say the error.how about a real fix for the error!
i just cant wait for tax season so i can get rid of the dell mobo so the error, static in the speakers and everything else form the dell waste is gone, like i said before never again dell,i stood up for you before the"fix" but then you did me wrong! i spent too much money for a pc with soo much wrong with it,5 count them 5 pcs later i almost got all the bugs worked out ,5 of the same machine....thats sad!
i just wish when something breaks on the cars i fix i could just remove it and call it "fixed"!

So what is the deal? Hello dell are you going to fix this? I'm sick of having to disconnect my externals time I boot up. Been viewing this thread for a couple of months now, dealing with the same issues. What happened to the mods who were helping? Dell seriously needs to figure their ish out. This computer has been the least of worries dealing with them. Customer service non existent, false shipping dates and delays, I just purchased a mini netbook and the hard drive was glued on. Before that they sent me a open box Xbox after I purchased a new one. I'm still waiting on shipment from a computer purchased in the beginning of November. Unfortunately they will never go bankrupt but they keep on getting worst and worst. I've learned my lesson so has the business I work for, won't be purchasing a Dell again.

I've been working on this since last April. If Dell (a multibillion dollar enterprise) were going to fix
this, it would have been fixed by now. Not fixing it is not hurting their bottom line this quarter or last
quarter... That's all that really matters. Next quarter will take care of itself. If you want it fixed
you are going to have to go to their Ombudsman Helen Hunt.

Yes, I agree, where DID the Dell people go?
I installed the updated BIOS, set my PC to allow sleep mode after inactivity like a trusting soul, and am paying the price. It has failed to boot 3 times, and I had to do a system restore. Obviously I have turned my PC back into a non-sleep-capable PC.
I would like to believe that Dell won't give up until they solve this, but it sure has been quiet here lately.

The problem is not universal. Since updating my 435MT to BIOS 1.1.4 I have had no further checkpoint error messages. My computer starts and sleeps normally and in fact I have had no problems of any kind. As I have posted several times, all of my prior freezes, blue screens and other major problems ended immediately several months ago when I totally uninstalled my Dell-installed ATI 4850 video driver, including registry entries and the Catalyst Control Center, and then installed the most recent ATI 4850 driver WITHOUT the CCC from the AMD/ATI site. Perhaps others with ongoing problems could also try this, although obviously it may not apply to all situations.

@ bob
just to let u know the CCC and ati and all the other bla bla bla aint the problem here becoz the day dell sent me my replacement pc(just before the 1.1.4 bios)i had removed the ati card and installed my evga9600gt card then after i put the new card in i installed win 7 retail.so i think ati or CCC is not to blame for all the trouble,i do beleave the blame goes to dell for this! just to let dell know tax season is coming (quick) and i was thinking of getting another new pc but if this is how they are going to act i think my $$$ are going else where (HP)

I have to agree with Bob. Since updating my 435MT to BIOS 1.1.4 the message has disappeared and the machine runs fine, no problems whatsoever.
Only one thing though. I never turn it off anymore because it takes over 2 minutes to boot and I only have 4 items in the startup menu.
I just put it to sleep every time, tap on the spacebar whenever I wish to use it and it's ready in 10 seconds.:emotion-2:
