Boot problems

When I try to power up the computer, it gets to the Dell splash screen, and then just hangs there. The hard drive light will stay on for about 30 seconds, turns off, and stays off. I've tried reseating the processor and RAM, as suggested by tech support. Any other ideas?

I tried the CD-ROM thing, and that didn't seem to have any effect. The tray opens and the drive seems to check for a disc, but nothing else seems to change.

Reading from A to D: green, green, green, orange/yellow

Thanks for the tip, though...

This is a long shot. When it is at the Dell Splash screen for about 30 seconds or so, try ejecting the cdrom.

If that does not work then colors are the four lights in the back (labeled A B C D)?

On a whim I tried it without a keyboard or mouse attached, and it worked fine. Turns out once I swapped the mouse for a different one, everything worked fine...

Craziness.

Thanks for the help,
Rory

What operating system do you use? Do you get any beeps? Can you boot with a boot disk? What is your boot sequence? Maybe your bios does not see your hard drive or your bios settings got scrambled.

Must be a bad mouse. Sometimes that cdrom thing works.
