Boot up problems
I have a Dell Dimension XPST 450, purchased since Nov, 99.
We have problems booting the computer up.
We click the start or power button but it will not start, we keep doing it and eventually it will have a surge of power, click again and the system boots up normally.
We have taken the front panel off and everythings fine.
Any answers please.
I have contacted Dell waiting for a response again.
Can you guys help.
Many thanks JPS

Hi,
It does sound to me as though this is a hardware issue which, if you will want to use your warranty, can only be done through Dell Tech Support, I'm afraid.
You can do some things while you are waiting, though. It appears that the problem is in the power stream somewhere. You can check to verify that the problem persists if you use a different outlet, both on the surge protector or APC and on the wall. Change power cords to be sure the problem is still there. Since you've checked things out in the tower and verified good connections by disconnecting and firmly reconnecting the power cable plugs, then you've gone as far as you can go there.
Other than the little things to try outside of the tower, you're limited in what you can do in this case, since the remainder of the parts are under warranty.
HTH,
Kay
