cache memory

i seem to be having problems installing any operating systems because there is 1k missing.
it shows up as 511k of cache and i need 512k to run the setup for Win NT.

Cache is not strictly necessary to run or install Windows NT.

What system do you have? How are you trying to install NT? What is the exact syntax of the error or exactly what is occurring during the install? How are you determining the amount of cache you have?

okay i have a dimension h266 and i put the win nt setup disk and it boots, then it says
"Windows NT has found only 511k of low memory. 512k of low memory is required to run windows nt. You may need to upgrade your computer or run a configuration program provided by the manufacturer." then i said fine ill change the cache to a higher amount in the bios so i went to it and i changed it to 640k instead of 512k. setup ran but it got to the first disk then i get an error saying
"file \ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. file error is 4
setup cannot continue. press any key". and thats it. and it cant be the disks cause i tried 3 other ones. please right back. thank you.

640k is the correct setting for the field I believe you changed.

The error you are getting is partially described below:

Could Not Load Ntkrnlmp.exe. The Error Code Is 4 on DEC ALPHA

Be absolutely sure that you are either running the Setup.exe program from the /i386 folder on the CDROM, or that you are using i386-based setup disks, or that you are booting to the NT4 CDROM and allowing Setup to automatically run.
