cannot access my scanner

After having wiped out and reformatted my hard drive, I am still trying to reload my accessories. My printer is working fine now but my scanner keeps getting a message stating it cannot be accessed because it is being accessed by another application. Then it tells me to wait until the application is finished or to cancel it to allow HP PrescisionScan LT access. I have not installed Norton Systemworks yet so I know that I have no antivirus in the background, and it even gives this message after rebooting and going directly to the scanner. I am completely baffled by this, as I have no idea what could be running. Any ideas on how to solve this?

I had a similar situation happen with my HP scanner and HP Deskscan. I re-installed the drivers for the scanner--and then it all worked! To get the most current driver for my HP scanner, I went to the HP website and downloaded from there. It wouldn't work when I used the CD that came with the scanner--but it did work when downloaded from the website.

Thank you for replying, but I have already resolved the problem.
I had to raise cain with the tech support at Dell because thay told me to call HP for the scanner problem. However after I called 4 times I was able to get in touch with a lady that had me delete the USB on the machine and allow the computer to rebuild it. I then uninstalled and reinstalled and it works just fine. And they thought it was the scanner...
