Cannot open *clp file

Anytime I copy to my clipboard and save to my documents I try to open the clp file and I get an error saying Windows can not find AcroRd32.exe. I do not know why it has this program (adobe I guess) assigned to open anything from my clipboard. I guess I should reassign how clp files are opened, but I ain't that smart. If someone could help me here I would appreciate it greatly. My kids have 3 or 4 things a week they want to copy of the internet, but we are stuck. Thanks

Thanks for getting back Paul, but that part is not the problem. I have no trouble getting the info to my clipboard, its after I save the info from my clipboard to a file, I cannot open it. Anything I save from clipboard and try to open, it gives me an error message that it cannot find AcroRd32.exe to open it. I do not have this file and would like to use some microsoft program to open my clp files. I dont know how to change the clp designation to accept another program. I tried right clicking on the clp file to get the "open with" option, but I only get "open". Kind of wierd, I know there is a way to change it but I don't know how.

are you using the print screen function to copy the screen contents?. If you're trying to save web pages, in IE, click edit>select all, then edit>copy, then open a blank work document, then in word, click edit>paste, then file>save as...

There are other ways of doing this, assuming I'm on the right track. Post back if you have difficulty with this.

Paul.

Hello-Check and see if you have a Clipboard Viewer program. That's what you need to look at your files.

My clipboard viewer is working fine, its when I save the info I have copied to my viewer to my documents. Then they wont open. It tries to open with a program I dont have. I need to change the association of clp files I think.

Bob,
I believe you're on the right track here. AcroRd32.exe is the executable file for Adobe Acrobat Reader so it would appear that somehow your .clip file associations got changed so that Acrobat Reader has been set as the default program to open them. To change the default file association of your .clp files to another program simply single-click one of them, hold the Shift key while right-clicking the file, select "Open With...", then select a program from the dialog box. Make sure to place a checkmark next to "Always use this program to open this type of file" if you want to permanently change its file association. Otherwise, this will be a one-time solution. Once you've done all that just click OK and you're in business.

Hope this helps!

Bob,

What you need to open the clipboard file will depend on what you have saved in it. For example, if you highlight some text, open the Clipboard Viewer and save the contents as a .clp file the result will be formatted HTML with the text included in it. You can open it with Notepad or Wordpad, but not with IE or Word.

What are you saving to .clp files? How are you saving them? Why are you using .clp files in the first place? I can't see any advantage to using .clp files.

Open Clipboard Viewer and click File - Open and then Browse to the clp file you wish to view. This will work for clp files already created.
Once on the clipboard, the better way to save the contents of the clipboard is to use paste outside of clipboard. The target of the paste being determined by the type of info copied and its intended use.
