can't connect ethernet controller & ....

Question

Hi!   I just installed a new operating sys (XP Pro) into my 8250 Dimension.  I can't reconnect to my internet or see my 2 additional hardrives in the housing.  Even after installing the original  drivers no success, then trying to install a Broadcom driver as given in the Dell download section for the 8250.... still no success.... I also tried install the Conexant driver & the original again too... but still no success...    What am I doing wrong? :)   ... can you please heeeelp!   My pc also doesn't see the 2 external seagate harddrives I have installed in the housing... is this related to the same issue?   thank u so much, kris

Let's back up just a bit. After your XP installation, the first driver you need to install is the chipset driver. If you did not install that first, the OS will not properly recognize your integrated components.

Osprey!   thank you very much...  all is working.  I randomly installed the original drivers after the XP install not knowing that the chipset should have been first on the list.   All the best, kris
