Cardbus controller help!?!

The exact error message given is as follows:  The device "Ricoh R/RL/RT/RC/5C475(II), R5C520 or Compatible CardBus Controller" has detected a CardBus card in its slot, but the firmware on this system is not configured to allow the CardBus controller to be run in CardBus mode. The operating system will currently accept only 16-bit (R2) pc-cards on this controller.

Hours on the phone with dell and no luck.  Belkin tells me that the dell XPS 600 has a "faulty power regulator" and does not support a "high powered client adapter" but I find that a little hard to believe.

Seems that the belkin F5D8000 (controller) that's paired along with a PCMCIA F5D8010 (NIC) is a 32-bit PCI card and per dell my XPS 600 should work just fine with it.  Additional info, the exact same card used to work fine in my Dell 2400, but apparently that one had an Intel chipset and the new XPS 600 has the nVidia.  After trying to install the latest updates for the system's chipset and flash BIOS i still kept receiving the following error message.

All Help is GREATLY appreciated!!

theprezodent,

This customer had the same issue with a Gateway, "The device Ricoh R5C520 Carbus Adapter has detected a CardBus card in its slot, but the firmware on this system is not configured to allow the CardBus controller to be run in CardBus mode. The operating system will currently accept only 16-bit (R2) pc-cards on this controller."
We had the same problem and message from XP - it was caused by the BIOS of the host Gateway PC not being uptodate. After a flash update of the BIOS from Gateway the card worked OK. So I guess that was J.Lovell's problem as well. We solved it ourselves - Belkin responded to emails but did not have a solution."

Fi you have loaded the latest XPS 600 bios, I don't know what else you can try.

I have the latest BIOS, I believe it is the A02.

I have already bought a USB network adapter, but the problem still really ticks me off  :)

Belkin says dell did not supply enough power to the PCI slot....if that is true then I imagine a quick fix is not in the works

Please let me know if you find out any fixes.....thanks.!!

Greetings from Amsterdam

I have exactly the same problem. Belkin F5D8000 rejected when installed in new XPS 600. I have tried the European XPS helpdesk with no success to date.

Belkin are working on it. However, it does appear to be a firmware problem that means the system does not accept the 32 bit Belkin card. They suggest that if there is no BIOS update to give it CardBus ability then there is nothing that can be done. Since the XPS is just purchased it has the latest BIOS.

Can someone at Dell explain why the firmware on this supposedly advanced kit only accepts 16 bit cards.

Unlike theprezodent I have no intention of writing off my investment in wireless network kit, giving up and getting some other equipment. However, the degree of "ticked off" ness is at least as great as his.

I am having the same problem and I am told that the problem lies in the BIOS of my brand new $3600 XPS 600 system and I am not pleased about it.

Apparently it doesn't recognize 32 bit wireless network cards.

Dell support was wothless and time comsuming.  They will hear from me.

Hey Guys,

I have also been told it is the BIOS......and for those of you that do not know.....that means we can all just sit on our hands because we got a bit bent over  :)

We will have to wait till they update the BIOS which could be one month and could be one year.  I went ahead and bought a USB wireless adapter for $50 while my $129 Belkin gets to sit in the box and I am limited to 54 Mps.

But to be honest, as tcked off as I was, it has been a month now and everything is working fine, so I got over it.  My suggestion is to write Dell so they know that there is a problem..  DO NOT waste the hours upon hours that I already have with Customer service.....they are NO HELP on this issue.

If anybody finds out any new ifformation that would be awesome  :)

Why isn't Dell addressing this issue??   These machines are not cheap.  On service support they act like they are not aware of the problem and end up being of no help.  I've spent well over tow hours getting bounced around.  Just fess up to the problem and fix the darn thing!

For those Dell company people who view these posting I hope you take notice of the general dissatisfaction of your customers.  I get more good advice from these users then I do your "supposed expert" support people.

This is my first Dell purchase and if things aren't resolved in a reasonible time period it will be my last Dell purchase.

I know many who ask me for computer recommendations.
