Catalyst Media Center Software

Just recently purchased an XPS-420 and ordered the ATI Theater 650 Pro card installed with the system.  I did not receive a CD for the Card and am curious if I should have received a CD that would have the Catalyst Media Center software that usually comes with the card?  The card works in Vista Media Center, but I am not a big fan of Windows Media Center and wanted to try the latest version of CMC.  I have used previous versions of their MMC software.

bdtnr,

I do not see the Catalyst Media Center software on the XPS 420 parts list.

Chris,

Is there anyway we could get this ?  I have the same card and would like to have this software too.  Searching the ATI site it appears the only way you can get it is with a card.

I agree, when you purchase an add-on peripheral, there is an assumption that the software/drivers that come with it our included.  I don't remember anywhere during the purchase that indicated that the software that normally ships witht the card was NOT included.

All,

All we offer is the driver and the User Guide. The additional software must come from Ati. Additional cables, installation CDs, manuals, and other accessories for ATI products can be purchased from the ATI online store at ati.com/online/shopati. Visit ati.com/support for online product information and support, and frequently asked questions.

If you go to the ati store you will not find the software or CD for the Theater cards and when you go to support all you get is the drivers.  This is a huge run around, Dell says ATI provides and ATI won't give it to you unless you buy the card.  Well, I already bought the card!!  If I would have paid the same price and bought it at a big box store and installed myself I would have the CD with the software.  The only difference in my opinion was you installed it, but again when purchased I was never told that no software was going to be shipped with it.  Dell sent me a CD for my ATI graphics card, which you installed that has the necessary software to utilize the card, Catalyst Control Center, why can't I get the CD that comes with the ATI TV card?

I too purchased this card with my system to recieve clear QAM but amd sadly disappointed.  I also experienced the run around and feel that I have been mislead by Dell.  Had I known I cannot obtain the necessary software to allow this, I would have never purchased the card.  This sales practice will definately impact any future purchases with Dell.

I had this same problem when I purchased a 550 to add to my dell computers.  Finally they told me how to fix it, their solution did not work, but I figured out how to load the software from the disc.

Insert your Catalyst control center disc in the computer.

right click and open the disc.

open the install file.

open the cmc file.

In the cmc file you will see a setup icon.  this one does nothing.

look for another cmc file inside the first cmc file.

open this second cmc file and you will see another set up icon.  click on it and it will install the cmc (catalyst media center)

robertwv,

Was that a Dell CD? What was the part number on the CD?

It is on the driver disc for the ATI product and is burried where I instructed.  I called Dell support this morning and let them know about it also as well as ATI yesterday after their instructions did not work either.

No, it is hidden on the disc that comes with the ATI card.  The disc should be an ATI Catalyst disc and the Catalyst Media Center is burried on the disc where you have to access the installation how I have described.

I have an ATI 550 media card installed in a Dell 530 and an older Dimension 2400.

Unfortunately I never received an ATI driver disc, the only driver disc I have is the Dell one.

I did not receive an ATI driver disk as well.  I would have looked all through that disk if I would have received one.  I have nothing specific for that card.

Sounds like Dell owes us a driver disc with CMC included.
