Clean Install - Need Intel Application Accelerator?

I've just done a clean install of Win XP on my new 8400; also installed all the latest drivers.  Everything seems to work well.

I have one 160gb hard drive.  Don't plan on doing any kind of RAID.

Question: Do I need to install the Intel Application Accelerator?

TIA

You should have your Application Accelerator on one of the Dell CD's to install or if not, you can click on the site below for your new 8400 system.

Sometimes I forget to install the application accelerator and have really seen no difference if that helps....

Thanks, yes I have the software.  I'm not sure if I NEED to install it.

Is there a description somewhere that tells you what it does, specifically for SATA drives?

You can use Google.com to search the data base for more information just by putting "   Intel Application Accelerator  " in the box and click go.

I am not sure but my blue screen of my Dimension 4550 announced that it was the IdeChnDr.sys that caused the trouble. I understand that this driver is linked to the Intel Application Accelerator.

But I am no hardware specialist. Now that Win XP SP2 causes so much trouble - does SP2 work with the IAA? I found nothing on the net about a compatibility when googling, and the IAA dates from 2002 if I remember well.

Thanks SR... I've searched the web and found numerous links, including the Intel site itself but I still don't understand whether this will benefit a non-RAID SATA drive.  One of your links even said:

"All your IDE drives will benefit, including ATAPI CD-ROM and DVD drives and even removeable drives."  (emphasis on "IDE".)

I was hoping someone from Dell (Hello?!!) would weigh-in.

Additionally, my PC does not have a floppy drive... how does one go about downloading the latest IAA from the updates page here and install it when it calls for "floppy installation"?
