Clock looses time

I have a new Dimension 8200, running Windows XP and the clock looses time.

Any help appreciated.

First, go to Windows update and make sure you have all of the critical updates installed. If this doesn't solve the problem, check the following:

I've done that and it still loses time.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

I went there and they suggested:

In the Registry Editor (regedit) navigate to:

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient

and locate the value SpecialPollInterval. This value is set in seconds (make sure to choose decimal as the base option).

I have never made a change in the Registry but guess "System Restore" would back it up?

PC's are notorious for not keeping accurate time. I've always wondered why considering how much they cost, as well as all the other things they do well.. but keep time? Nope. The best you can do is to synch them to a time server.

Since you are XP, then take a look at http://www.tweakxp.com . Microsoft set the time synch to 7 days (meaning your PC will check with time.microsoft.com and adjust your clock once every seven day). You can find ways there to change the auto sych from 7 days to whatever update interval you want, as well as how to add additional time servers (I think XP only comes with one which is time.microsoft.com). Personally I set mine to synch every hour

Best of luck, and if I can be of more help, let me know.

I "had" the same problem. Quick & easy solution is "disable" the auto synchronize. Worked for me. Who needs to have a clock reset every 7 days anyway. My clock hasn't lost no time in the last 3 months since I disabled the auto function.

It should, but I always make a backup of my registry before I make any changes to it. (Once bitten, twice shy )

"Who needs to have a clock reset every 7 days" ??
Man you are just lucky.

Well, I downloaded an auto syn from the internet and it resets my clock EVERY day and it still gains time.
I need one that resets tha stupid XP clock every HOUR.

Gets me, MS can come out with a new program to sell every year or but they can't make a clock that will keep time.

My wife's PCS phone keeps perfect time.
OK, I will shut up.
