computer doesn't boot up

I had to replace the blower over the heat sink on my 4700C. The blower and heat sink came together so I thought I had to replace them both. When I removed the heat sink on my computer, the male part of the processor was attached to the heat sink, so I plugged it back in and just attached the new blower to the old heat sink. Then I plugged the computer back in - the blower works great, but it appears that is all. The light on the front of the case is on as if the computer is on, but the computer doesn't boot up. Pressing that button doesn't seem to do anything. Another thing I noticed is that the little light on the inside doesn't stay on for a little while when I unplug the computer. What has happened???

Open the case and check all the power and data cables, by removing and reseating them.  Check the processor is installed correctly and there are no bent or broken pins.

What is the sequence of the diagnostic LEDs at the back panel of the case?
Is the power button LED, green, blinking green, solid amber, blinking amber?

On the front: The power button is amber and the other light is green

Bev,
The power button is solid amber. I have removed and reseated all cables and boards. The processor doesn't have any broken or bent pins. The LED's on the back are not lit up at all. Terri

there is a "P4" connector near the back of the motherboard (two yellow and two black wires)... make sure thats firmly seated.

its looking like a bad Power Supply, Motherboard, or CPU.
my advice would be replace in that order: least expensive - most expensive.

Did you try removing and reseating the memory, check for any burnt or damaged power connectors?

A solid amber LED, usually indicates a failure of either the motherboard or the processor.  Generally, it is the motherboard.

Thanks Bev - the computer is 3 years old, so I'm looking to replace it.
