Freeze ups are usually due to hardware problems.  What are the "bunch of steps" that Dell Tech Support has had you do?  Have you tried opening the case and reseating all PCI cards, memory, the CPU, and all connectors between the drives and the motherboard?

Be careful with those reseating steps... If you are not sure of what you are doing call tech support again (its free ) and have them walk you through it. Its especially dangerous to reseat the processor, one bent pin and you have problems. Yea, so my advice is try calling tech support and stay on the phone with them until they either fix your issue or they replace a faulty part.

My advice would be for the original poster to post some system specs, particularly the total amount of system RAM.

If the OP is running 128mb, it probably wouldn't take much to lock up the machine.
