Computer randomly restarts by itself!

Since yesterday my computer has started rebooting for no apparrent reason. It only happens occasionally, maybe once every hour, but there doesn't seem to be a specific thing that triggers it. Whether I'm working on the computer or the computer is left alone, it still reboots by itself. What could possibly be causing this?!

I have a Dimension 4400 by the way.

Windows XP may be restarting automatically because of an error. To disable the automatic restart so that you may view the error, right-click My Computer, and select Properties. Click the Advanced tab, and under Startup and Recovery, click Settings. Uncheck the "Automatically restart" box under System Failure, and click OK. Click OK again, and restart the system.

You may also want to try disconnecting any additional USB devices (aside from the keyboard and/or mouse), and see if that helps.

You may want to try some of the generalized suggestions listed in this post, as well.

Mine does the same thing. I'll try what the reply person said to do.

Any luck?

Thanks Cody for the advice. However, doesn't this mean that there is an underlying problem somewhere? I have called Dell Support by phone. The Rep told me to remove all those start up apps. I did and it is still rebooting on its own. I am going to take your advice and turn of atuo-restart, but still this doesn't solve the underlying problem.

Thanks for your help nonetheless.
