Computer Refuses to Restart

Hey Everyone-
I recently purchased a new Dimension 8100. It has got to be the greatest computer ever built!! Anyway, lately I've found that the computer almost always refuses to restart. Either Windows ME will shut down and the screen will remain blank, or, the same will happen but the computer will appear to go into hibernation except for the fact the the monitor light blinks as well and the hard drive light. Once in a while, very rarely that is, the computer will restart normally. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Having the same problem with my Dimension. Power button does not work. I have read all the fix-its and haven't found a solution - only a reference to Windows 98 SE problem. I do not think it is a software problem but who knows???

I had a similar problem in that the the computer wouldn't shut down fully so that it could restart. I discovered that it was a setting on the Internet connection which was set to "always on" for my ADSL connection. This wasn't releasing the USB modem and kept the sysem from shutting down and restarting.

On the 8100 you need to hold the power button in for about 5 seconds before it shuts down. AT least that's what it says in the documentation. I never turn mine off, so I haven't tested this.
