Please post the computer's model number as well as the operating system she is using.  Do you suspect it is a problem with the computer's hardware or the operating system and software she is using?  That information will be helpful to those replying.

I have reinstalled Windows Professional XP, because I thought that might have been the problem! I did not defrag the system, I will do that now and then let you know the response!

She has a 4100 Series, Pentium III Processor (Dimension L). She is running Windows XP as her operating system. I am not sure what the probelm is. It is just running slow with everything that is done, from starting the system up, login onto the internet, typing a word document, basically everything! Let me know what else you might need, to figure out the problem

1.  Reboot
2.  Delete all Temp files in C:\Windows\Temp
3.  Also in %user% temp files
4.  Upgrade RAM to 1024
5.  Start | Run | Msconfig |
Stop all programs such as Norton Virus, Music Match, MS Media Player, etc.
Do this by removing the check mark then click
6.  Reboot
7.  Run Spy Bot Search & Destroy
8.  Run LAVA Soft Ad Aware
10.  Degrag does not speed up the average home user very much.
11.   DL and run the free MS Anti Spyware
12.  DL and run Belarc and post your PC specs here.

After you run everything turn your Norton or McAfee Virus back on.

How much RAM does she have in the system? Did you reformat the hard drive when you reinstalled Windows, or did you just reinstall Windows? I have the same system, and after adding more RAM, for a total of 384MB, (I plan to go to 512MB later on) and reformatting the hard drive, it runs a lot faster than it used to. You don't necessarily have to reformat if you haven't done that already, but if the amount of RAM is low, add more.

Hi Jenn,

Sorry I made a mistake with your RAM.  You have less than I thought - 128 MEGS instead of 256 MEGS.

Most PCs now have 512 to 1024 Megs of RAM as it takes more to run the latest programs such as MS Office, Internet, Photo editing, etc.

1.  tool bar google com will stops Pop Ups and you can remove Panicware, Inc. - Pop-Up Stopper

2.  Roxie DirectCD takes up memory and system resources but you can stop it in msconfig

Hi Jenn,

If you have a chance to buy RAM after rebated from CompUSA, Bestbuy, Circuit City, etc. your PC will Zoom like Peter Pan or Superman if you add as much as your can afford or I can buy it for your B/D or Christmas.

Slot 'DIMM1'  has 256 but Slot 'DIMM2'  has non but if you add up to 512 MEGS or 1024 MEGS your PC will be awesome.

Can you read about msconfig in your help or at www.microsoft.com ?  If so you may want to stop some of the programs that are running.

If I get rid of Roxie CD-then I will not have a CD burning system-correct?!!?? I like to burn CD's, so I don't want to get rid of that. I will get rid of the POP-UP Stopper. Other then the RAM, is there anything else that can be done?
