i seem to be having the same problem. i've got the camera connect to the USB cable and the other end in the hard drive and it still doesn't recognise that i've got it all linked up. I've only just got my computer so haven't had to re-install anything but it does have Windows XP on it.
I hope someone comes to our rescue as this is really baffling me!
