You should let us know what kind of pc it is and what OS it has ... that makes a big difference. Anyway, I have seen other posts about people saying their 8100s shut down randomly with Windows ME. It appears to be a issue with many Dells.

I may be off the subject, but does it go into hibernate? or just plain shut off?

My computer would reboot everytime there was a thunderstorm. Installing a battery backup system cured the problem. I've seen references to loose memory chips or a faulty power supply as potential causes of shutting down. It makes sense to rule out these hardware based possibilities before investing in new accessories. Are you using a decent surge protector? Good luck.

I have an 8100 running Windows ME. The computer was constantly shutting off--not hibernating--shutting off. Dell replaced a power supply and I have not had a problem since. It could go a week without a problem, but then would do it to the point where I couldn't even get a desktop screen. I definately would not rule out the power supply.

I just got my 8100 yesterday and it has restarted at least 4 times since then. It happens at random times (most often when I'm working on something) and it reboots like nothing went wrong. Tech support said the system resources were too low, try MSCONFIG. I did that, but I also told him I wasn't doing anything more than what I did on a regular basis on my old Crapshiba laptop with half the processor and half the memory! I have 1.3GHz, 256MB ram, 80 GB HD.

There is a obvious problem here .... I am guessing some of the 8100s were shipped with bad power supplies. I have a 8100 and leave it on 24/7 with NO problems.

There is no way your resources are too low.
