Corrupt BIOS?
Hi guys,
I recently bought a Studio 8100 i7 from eBay, it didn’t come with a hard drive which I thought was no big deal (I know, let the buyer beware). It didn’t take too long to fit a HDD and install Windows.
Unfortunately the computer has been randomly freezing, I completed all the system tests and benchmarks and everything checked out, I also replaced the GPU (GeForce GTX770) and also upgraded to a SeaSonic 620 watt PSU, even after reinstalling Win 10 64 from scratch the system would still randomly freeze.
The Dell system update recommended a BIOS update from A03 to A05, I downloaded the update but it wouldn’t run, I used the compatibility troubleshooter and the update got to 53% and you guessed it... the system frooze.
It now won’t start at all, no error beeps etc. After consulting the Internet I removed th coin cell battery and powered up the PC (I got 5 beeps), I hoped this was good news and replaced the battery and tried again. Unfortunately the system still wouldn’t start, no beeps no nothing.
Do I have any options available, is there a way to reset / restore the BIOS to the factory settings, or is the system beyond help?
Thanks in advance,
George Wood

When a BIOS flash/update fails, the only typical remedy is to replace the motherboard.

***,
I kinda figured I was boned, the PC only cost 85 GBP with no HDD, it’s not going to make sense to replace just the motherboard.
Thanks for confirming my suspicions.
Kind regards,
George

Hi Bev
I’m thinking about biting the bullet and replacing the motherboard, can you confirm if the following would be compatible?

Yes, the Dell Studio XPS 8100 G3HR7 Desktop (DT) Motherboard, as shown in your link, is compatible.
But, prior to buying, you should check the reviews.
