corrupted update list?

I have a Dell T700 running Windows 98se.  I have Norton System Works 2003.  Today I updated my virus definitions and one other update which did not install.  I couldn't read it fast enough.  So I tried running Liveupdate again and at the end it said the update list is corrupted but it also said no other updates are needed.  Is this something wrong?  Ant info would be great.  Thanks

I tried uninstaling Liveupdate and then reinstalling it.  I deleted the Setting.LiveUpdate and empting my temp folder.  Nothing worked.  I ran liveupdate and now got this message:

Symantec Common Client Updates

Update could not determiine if there is an update for this product because the update list for this product is corrupted.

Any suggestions?

Revome SystemWorks.  Reboot.  Remove liveupdate.  Reboot.  Remove LiveReg.  Reboot.  Search for files and folders using Advanced Options.  Look for Norton, SystemWorks, Symantec, Liveupdate, Livereg and delete these folders.  Reboot.  Reload SystemWorks.

I did the uninstall and reinstalled according to my book from Norton Systemworks 2003 and it still gives me the same message as above.  Any suggestions on what to do now?

Hmm, both my computer and my brother's now have the same error messages when running LiveUpdate.  I started looking a the Symantec site and they list a procedure for completely removing all traces the Norton software prior to reinstalling it.  I haven't tried it yet, though.  I think I'm going to wait a couple of days to see if they are getting lots reports about this and come up with an easier fix.  Anybody want to bet that it is the result of a WindowUpdate patch?

Whenever I have had problems like this with Live Update, the only solution has been to follow the instructions on the Symantec site for completely removing all traces of the software.  This has always fixed the problem.  Just print out the instructions and follow them carefully.

Doesn't work.  I did exactly what they said twice and I still get the same message.

You should be able to resolve this issue with SystemWorks 2001 and 2002 if you follow my instructions.  Personally, I prefer Avast over Norton.  Avast runs well with my triple boot PC...W98SE, W2K Pro, and WXP Pro.

There have been reports of problem with NAV 2004.  Reminds me of the Intuit/TurboTax debacle.

OK, I ran LiveUpdate today and there was an update that seems to have fixed the problem on my computer.
