CPU display in performance tab in task manager.

Question

I have XPS 600 desktop system with Intel D CPU 3.00GHz.  So it is 2 processors.   My device manager shows two pentium d cpu's, but the performance tab in the task manager shows only one. I tried to change views, but the only option chosen and available 'one graph per cpu' and performance tab still shows only one cpu when it should show two. What would cause this?

device manager shows it that way because it is a dual core  cpu. theres nothing wrong Message Edited by jimfred on 01-08-200712:28 AM

Not true. Dual core processors (one of my E520's has a P4D 2.8) should also show two windows under the 'performance' tab of the task manager.   Mine does.

vobekk, Make sure Hyper-Threading is enabled in the System Setup Program.

OK, I just found out about this.....It may or may not be your problem.   Bring up the task manager, and select the performance tab.   Now, look in the 'View' menu, and look at 'CPU History' see if it's set to show one graph or two.

Pentium D (dual-core) processors do not support hyperthreading.   http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/proc_info_table.pdf

Thanks again, guys!   I restarted computer and looked at system setup:   Dual core processor, both cores are on.   No hyperthreading capabilities.

Thtis exactly what I did.  It  display only 1 CPU chart and does not give option for seeing 2 or affinity with right mouth click on specific application in processes tab.
