unfourtunately, dells motherboards do not contain temperature sensors. You can only monitor the hardrive temperature by using Speedfan. you can get it by googling it. check for dust build up inside your pc, if there is, then get some compressed air and blow it out in an outside environment because you do not want air blowing in your house. If there is not, then you might need a new fan. , ravi

Unfortunately, there's nothing wrong with my 2350 other than a poor design. What really frosts me is that apparently people who complained about the noise when they received the machines got some sort of repair upgrade sent to them. Those of us who soldiered along trying to ignore the noise were simply taken advantage of. So I was going to try to do some redesign, but wanted temperature readings to proceed from.
I'd buy a new machine to replace it, but of course nobody seems to quote noise level as a specification. No point laying out cash for another mail order machine which you find to be distressingly noisy after delivery.
I'm surprised you're encountering noise with that Dimension 2350. The 2350 was my very first Dell and it was always quiet as a mouse for me. Definitely check for dust as ravi recommended. The 2350 is an older pc and there could be the possibility of dust build-up.
In case it matters, my new Dimension E-510 is extremely quiet. It did have a (common occurance to this model) rattle & hum on the outer metal case, but I corrected that easily by tapping around the case to find the source of the hum, then simply took the cover side panel off...reinstalled the cover; problem fixed.. Just the outer case rattling; easily corrected... The E-510 is also the coolest Dell I've owned; great ventilation...
I can only repeat there's nothing wrong with the fan, or dust or anything of a repairable nature. It's always been painfully loud and still is. It just happens that due to a move it has to be located in the same room with me now and it's intolerable.
To repeat, I'm willing to spend some effort quieting it down (having already done all the obvious things) with a redesigned cooling system but simply wanted to know if one could measure the CPU temperature. The answer appears to be "no" and I'll have to get a theromcouple on the HS to proceed.
then, its the fan itself. The fan is older and louder. You can buy a new fan from dell, and it should be quieter. Its just that the fan motor is loud. ,ravi
