CPU Upgrade Fan Plug Query

I've just received my second processor for my PW470 but the socket on the motherboard for the fan is a 5 pin socket and the plug on the end of the lead from the fan is a three pin plug. Is this just a case replacing the plug or is someone trying to tell me something?!

It sound like the fan installed with the shroud is not the correct one; if you are speaking of the fan attached to the CPU shroud enclosure. The fan should have a five pin layout to fit the motherboard. This 5 pin is designed to adjust fan speed based on CPU temperature.

You need to contact Dell and advise them that the fan attached to the shroud is not correct to fit on the CPU fan power socket.

Thanks again Chipstone. This post was a knee jerk reaction to me opening the box of my new processor to find a small  fan attached to the heat sink that was shipped with it (not one for a Dell PW). I have since ordered the correct components and impatiently waiting for delivery.
