CPU upgrade on Demension E520

Hi, I have a Demision E520 with the E520 MBO OWG864 (Motherboard ID: DM061), Intel Broadwater G965 chipset (Supported FSB Speeds -  FSB533, FSB800, FSB1066) current cpu - DualCore Intel Pentium D 945. I want to upgrade my cpu to a core2duo E6600 or E6700. The 945 is a 800 mhz graded cpu and the E6600 is 1066. Also, what core2duo cpu's can I upgrade to? I assume any one that is 65nm and FSB533, FSB800, FSB1066.

I have upgraded the psu to a zalman 600w, gpu to HD3870, 2gb x 2 ram and a HT Omega Claro2 sound card. OS is  vista ultimate x64.

Thanks for the help!

OK, I figured out I can upgrade to a E6600, E6700, Q6600 (and some others but i want 4mb cache). Just found a used E6700 (2.66MHz) for 60$. How do I change the MBO frequeny to 1066 for this cpu? Will the MBO just recognize the hardware change and do it for me or do I need to first boot to bios and change it manually?

The FSB is what ever the processor FSB is. So you should be ok. I have Q6600 with the FSB 1066 in mine.

Hi guys,

I know this is old now but thought i'd chime in to help any future upgraders...

I upgraded my E520 to a Q6700 (2.66Ghz quad, 65nm, Kentsfield) it runs cooler than the Pent 4 D 945 i had in previously and thats with stock cooler - i used artic silver 5 thrm paste (highly recommended!!)

also have a HD3870 and 4Gb 533mhz DDR2 - i upgraded to a Corsair 450W PSU to manage it all.

From the research i did - the P945/G945 chipsets (on the e520 mobo) can take any LGA775 @ 65nm upto 1066FSB thats the max.

I didn't have to re-install OS either - dropped it in and straight into games :) (which run much much better - i got CPU from ebay for £100 - half price compared to brand new)

good luck to any upgraders - hope this helps.
