Single core processors are also, Socket LGA 775. The reason it's not supported, is due to the limitations of the voltage regulator and chipset, on the 5100 motherboard.
If you want to upgrade to a Core 2 Duo, you would need to replace the 5100 motherboard, with a Dimension E520 motherboard.

Sorry, the 5100 does not support dual core processors, only Socket LGA-775. Prescott processors.

But i checked and it says socket 775
