Make certain that you have all the Dell XP reinstallation CD's, before creating any addional partitions, as this will destroy the Dell PC Restore feature.
You're being as polite as usual, but that's like you.
I had a lot of trouble getting the CD's for the laptop I brought my wife in October.
Took several phone calls and some GBHE ( grevious bodily harm ear'hole) to get Dell to send these out. I'd made the full system XP Home CD as soon as I could for her. But needed all the drivers etc.
It takes a bit of GBHE, but they will supply them.
I do consider it to be very unfair and inconsiderate of Dell not to supply these CD's as a matter of routine.
Not enough people know that they should have these, fewer know that they have to bend Dell's ear to get them.
After all who actually checks the box to see exactly what they have. We all plug it in and switch on. If it goes ok then fine.
Only when there is a problem or we find out from forums or knowledgeable friends do we realise that "hang on, I haven't got all the re-install and drivers CD's I should have.
"WTFIGO"
So you call Dell and get told you should have asked for the CD's

Hi,
If all your existing hard disk space is already allocated to one or more partitions.
Then you will need to use a software partitioning utility such as Partition Magic or Acronis Disk Director.
Reduce the size of your exisiting partition.
Create the new one(s)
Format Them

Hi,
Good point Bev
Thanks
Dell are a little reluctant to supply all the CD's & O/S CD's for their machines these days.

Ceri.
I think that is classified as a large understatement, have you noticed that Dell has again change their policies regards to supplying the CD's.
