Thanks. I just checked for critical updates yersterday and there was nothting. I wish they could leave the critical update icon in your system tray until you update. I usally check once a week and would'nt have checked again probably until next week!

If you would like to be notified by Microsoft each time a security alert is issued (rather than discover a patch by going to Windows Update) you can sign up for email notifications here

Just downloaded two critical updates and now I have the "Windows Messenger" icon back again. How do I get rid of this? Barb

It's installed, no problems, as of now !!!! Everything aok, but, I always take a snapshot before carrying out anything like this "just in case" I've been burnt before !!!!!!

If one of the updates was for Messenger, you can uninstall it using the instructions here.
