Cursor problems
Just got a new 8200 a couple of weeks ago. Have already had problems with the cursor moving freely without even touching the mouse. It will float to the top, to the side, etc. Any suggestions?

Did you receive any guidance on how to correct the cursor floating problems ?
I have the same on my Latitude, and would be very grateful for advice on how to fix this problem.

My cursor will float freely to the side without touching the mouse (Dell Dimension 8300). Did anyone see a solution to this problem? It was mentioned before. Your help is appreciated greatly.

I too am experiencing the same problem. The cursor will arbitrarily zip and scroll to the bottom of the screen. It a bit annoying and would like to be able to resolve it. I have a Dell 8250 and a Logitech Trackman Marble (Model T-CL13) connected to a PS/2 port using the mouse driver provided by Microsoft XP. I have tried installing the latest driver from Logitech and the behavior was much worse - arbitrary movements and opens all sort of windows without me touching the mouse.
I will try the following:
(1) Replace the Trackman Marble
(2) Update my BIOS to v A04
(3) Try a different brand of mouse

The problem turned out to be an issue with this particular Logitech Trackman Marble (T-CL13). I plugged in the mouse that Dell gave me and the problem went away. I have two of these trackballs and they both exhibit the same problem. I have also seen this happen on annother system running Windows 2000. Do anyone else have this issue with their Trackman Mables?

No, never used a Trackman Marble, and my cursor still makes mysterious journeys once in a while from the right to the left of the screen, or vertically sometimes. It is scary, as if Dell Company suddenly takes over control of my computer from a distance.

Thank you, ChrisM. I did all that. It is a waste of time. This is not a virus problem. It is an inside job: Dell Company takes over my computer, so it seems to me, and it is scaring. It doesn't happen every day, but is is weird when your cursor suddenly starts moving slowly to the side or to the top of your screen.

In addition, my mouse problems are gone. Dell sent me a new motherboard, which I thought was a really dumb idea, but it was difficult to tell that to a guy in India over a really bad connection. The motherboard the technician switched for my old one is exactly the same, except it has BIOS revision A03. Dell never suggested I update my BIOS, and for some reason I never thought of it. In any case, my BIOS was updated (in the most roundabout way), and my mouse woes are over. Here is what I sugges you do:
1. When your computer starts up, look at the BIOS revision under the Dell logo.
2. Go to the Dell support page and type "(your system name) BIOS" e.g. I typed "8300 BIOS"
3. Your top results will be under "most popular results". Choose the latest version of the relevant BIOS.
4. Call Dell support and get them to walk you through the process from here if you aren't comfortable with following the instructions at the download site. You probably need a floppy drive and a blank floppy disk for this procedure.
