D = dual core. So there are actually two separate processors within the CPU that can perform parallel tasks. What difference you'll see in real life depends on what you are doing. Most users will not see a tremendous benefit. At a $400 premium, I'd lean toward the HT processor.

For surfing the net, 2GB of RAM is really more than enough. Unless you are into gaming or video encoding, 512MB or 1GB is plenty. Again, buying too much you're paying a premium. Buying later, when you actually need it, will save money.
