End task/close all progs. except Systray and Explorer (including Anti Virus and firewall) prior to running scandisk and/or defrag, and see if it works then. :-)

Attn: "Goon Boy": Thanks for you advise on getting defrag to work. Tried many times to defrag and each time PC would freeze when defrag started or would get as far as 98% and freeze.
Used your instructions in closing all programs, except sys tray, explorer, prior to running scandisk and/or defrag. Went to defrang cleanup disk, then "defrag"........defrag went thru all the way in less than 1 minute.
