DELL 745 Audio Problems

I have a new Windows XP SP2 Image I have created, the issue I am running into is the Audio driver, I did download and install the HD Audio Driver from Microsoft which is called KB888111, which then installed Microsoft UAA Function Driver for High Defination Audio - ADI 1983, beyond this point I am stuck, I then pointed the UPDATE DRIVER under the device manager for this hardware and pointed it to the apporiate drivers for this audio device I downloaded from DELL's site but no hardware is detected, also went to the setup.exe and comes back with a message that states No Audio Driver Files do not support your computer hardware, any help on this is appreciated, Thank You.

P.S. I also tried to intstall KB835221 as well but no luck.

JMcClainMl,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Did you try downloading the sound drivers below?

JMcCLainMI,

We also were experiencing the same issue. HOWEVER, we did get past it. Been banging our heads here against the Flat Panels....

Here's how we solved the issue:

1. Install Desktop System Software (DSS) for Optiplex 745. Restart PC. (power down, power on)
2. RE-install Intel Chipset for Optiplex 745 or 745c. Restart PC. (power down, power on)
3. NOW install SoundMax HD Audio driver R132379 (For WinXPSP2 Pro PC's ONLY).
4. Install takes quite a while... wait... it will finish, and prompt for Reboot.

Don't ask me why... Ask Dell why this works the way it does... and why the Desktop System Software (DSS) for Optiplex 745 is needed!! I think this KB888111 is rolled into the DSS...

There is also another solution... Google KB888111... and see if you can obtain this QFE (Quick Fix Engineering) from Microsoft. They recently took down this install from their servers, something to do with rendering Creative Labs HD Audio useless... But it works great with the Optiplex 745 model.

with this R132379.EXE driver, it did not wok for me neither.

In my case, I include this driver in the WXP SP2 image and the path to it is included in the driver path in the sysprep.inf.

The KB888111 - Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver has already been installed in the base image.

My problem is when the Windows started to detect plug and play devices, it did not grab the audio driver (R132379.EXE). BUt instead, it installed the Microsoft UAA Function Driver for High Definition Audio - Adi 1983 driver. Because of this, there is NO audio output at all from the onboard speaker system, and very low volume with external speakers.

To fix this problem, I have to manually update the driver  with the Dell one. However, this is still a problem becasue the driver was not installed properly during the unattended setup.

Are you aware of this problem and what is the fix for it for an unattended Windows setup ?

Thanks & regards
