True, but they will continue to be different entities. We will not be borrowing hardware from Alienware so you won't see anytime soon Dell computers with AMD procs.
to summarize it, alienware is a sub-company from dell. like nomadgamer said, in theory, dell does not sell amd procs. in their pcs directly, but through alienware they do.
Dimension 2350
intel celeron 2.2ghz, 512mb of ram, 30gb hardrive
Dimension 2400 (modified cooling system) check it out www.geocities.com/ravipcplanet/ Intel celeron 2.60ghz, 1GB of ram, 80gb hardrive
Interestingly, I notice the Alienware configuration utility for their high end gaming PC's provides an option to buy a Dell 30 inch monitor -- but apparently only if you are configuring an Alienware computer with an Intel chip. The models built on AMD chips only offer Samsung 30 inch monitors.
Seems like Dell is unnecessarily missing some good business there. Everyone knows the Dell 24 and 30 inch monitors rule, why give precedence to a competitor in your own subsidiary's product offerings?
Just curious. Why doesn't Dell offer AMD processor for the XPS desktop series? Unless everybody who purchase a Dell are all for content creation (video), the AMD Athlon 64/X2 is so much better for gaming than the Intel's counterpart. After all, it is gaming that pushes the cpu/gpu performance, not running Powerpoint. :P
