Dell Optical Mouse problem.

I have the XPS 400, I have the Dell optical wired mouse, the one with the silver buttons. Here's my problem, my mouse seems to jump around alot, I will be using it and it just jumps around for no reason. I dont think it has any thing to do with the mouse properties. I also had the Microsoft black colored mouse with the red light on the back and the same thing happened to me. Is it just optical mouses or is it my mouse or PC. Please help me out.

I was having the same problem with my mouse. I tried to clear the NVRAM like the support guy told me too and it didn't help. I contacted them back and tried something else, still no help. Finally I just took my Microsoft optical mouse and hooked it up and put my Dell mouse on my older HP machine. Now they both seem to be working fine and this one hasn't jumped any.

yeah that was the other thing I tried I forgot, I think mine may have just been some weird issue with the mouse and pc lol. But many people solve their problems like you said, just with a new pad or don't even use a mouse pad at all. I know the mouse I'm using now works fine on the mousepad that the other kept messing up on.

I had the same problem, and believe it or not changing the mousepad solved the problem.  I was using the Dell pad that came with the computer which had "DELL" in silver reflective letters on a black background.  The mouse movement was very erratic until I switched to a plain mousepad.  It might not help you, but it's easy to try.

But I thought that you don't have to use a mouse pad with optical mouses, right now I'm using the Dell Optical mouse with no pad, should I use a pad or not. And if I need to use one should I use the one Dell gave me or buy one of those thick mouse pads? It jumps around when I'm on the Internet or playing games, everything I do it jump around, I still can't figure it out. Can someone be just a little more specific on how to fix the problem, please. Thanks

No, you don't have to have a pad.  It's just less noisy than rolling it around on my wooden desktop.

But if the suface is too reflective it can cause the mouse to be erratic.
